Unexpectedly, just as I'm gearing up for
Starwood, one of the agencies with which I've been registered for awhile, suddenly calls me with my first opportunity. And they're looking for someone to start next week!
Turns out, they keep changing their minds. At first the story is that the person able to train is only available for one week. Then it turns out that the current person is the 4th temp in a month that hasn't worked out (uh-oh), but really 2 of them lacked the necessary skills, and the other 2 were too timid to ask necessary questions in a busy office. So I appear to have the necessary skills and the understanding of being one of those focussed people that doesn't always notice the silent person who's lost, so I "know" what to do about it.
My first interview went better than any interview I've ever had -- a balanced mixture between confidence and humbleness. The HR person loved me "without reservations." Now the office workers want to meet me at 9AM Monday. If they like me, I've got the job -- and they're willing to pay up to my last salary for starting pay! Woo hoo!
I even raised the possibility of my taking Tuesday off to do my Starwood work barter (but not if it's a deal-breaker) and the HR person seemed amenable to the idea. They may want me to start Wednesday or even the following week...
