[doin' the "proud parent" dance]
One morning about a month ago I went to wake Madoc and found him staring out his window, listening to the mourning dove. Later that day, he pestered me until I took dictation for him on the song he composed. It took a month before he would look at it and edit his rough draft.
O Mourning Dove
by Madoc
~Chorus:
O mourning dove:
Why do you seem so sad?
When all you have is had?
1] O mourning dove
You should have some love
Because you are a dove
You need some love
When you're a dove
Needing happiness
Within your consciousness
To avoid lifelessness
~Chorus~
2] O mourning dove
You need to fly
So very, very high
Touching the clouds
Above the crowds
And the kings’ high crowns
To you are very down
So very very down
~Chorus~
3] Come down to mate
Do not be too late
There you can find some love
Another dove
To make some chicks
To pass on your tricks
When they learn to fly
So very, very high
~Chorus~
I think it's about perfectionism, although I'm not sure he's quite at the level of conscious understanding of his theme...
He wants me to set it to music for him, although he's helping nail down the melody. We already have pegged the closest notes to mimic the mourning dove's cry. I'm thinking of submitting it to
Oak Leaves once we get the melody written in
Finale PrintMusic.
