That's a great question! honestly I think for me it's the subject matter not actually a lyric that makes me love a song. Like just about every song I've heard about Cars/driving, or sleeping/dreaming I have completely fallen in love with. but ultimately it's a combination of things that come together that make me like a song. the music and the vocal have to reflect the subject matter and the lyric. It has to come together and set a mood for me, because I'm all about a constant running soundtrack to my life teehee. If it's an angry song, I like for it to rock out with a gritty vocal. If it's a sleepy song, I like soft acousticnmusic with a tenderly sung lyric

I'm the same way! Really, I love songs that can completely transport you to another place. I like to listen to music the most in my car, really loud, and just get lost in it. That's the sign of a powerful song when you can connect with it on such an emotional level.

I'm gonna have to check out some of the artists you mentioned too. I have some Rufus Wainwright, but I don't have any of the others. I'm always on the lookout for new music!

For me to recommend something to someone else it is usually the lyrics, then the music, and then the voice. For me to listen to something and really like it, however, it is usually the music, then the lyrics, then the voice.

I'm so glad you liked the song! I really like everything of theirs that I've heard so it was hard just to choose one. Check out Konstantine if you can. It's epic. It's almost 10 minutes long, but seriously, I get lost in it because it tells a story, and it doesn't seem that long at all.

It's interesting that voice is last on both of our lists to what grabs us. I do love a great voice, of course, but the music and lyrics are what really draw me in. I think it's because they both can invoke such emotion.
