This is hopelessly heart-string-tuggin' stuff but dangit if I'm wallerin' in it with joy!

Found and showed to me by now much better-feeling M., http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9lp0IWv8QZY (Susan Boyle, Britain's Got Talent...aka, don't reflexively judge a book by its cover

Hee!
I've been going through the posts of the whole series again; there *is* something about this show that makes me happy - and watching more of the show, I get the feeling that they pull aside people who have amusingly dreadful acts and get them into the show of it, feature them in ways that are fun and silly and let them get some limelight without pretending they're more talented than they are ;-) ... and then there's people like Susan Boyle... :-D

I agree with you; for the most part, it pains me to watch, particularly the backstage back-stabbing. But it's worth it to see the glimmers of greatness...

Actually... if you watch closely - I think they really do seek out people who can have fun with the poking-fun-in-public thing, and get their permission to do so... they have *hundreds* of terrible acts go through the process, and the ones they showcase as bad acts all seem to be good natured about the whole thing. As a performer, I rather appreciate the brutally honest feedback as well, that kind of thing gives you tools to improve... heck, that's why we fell in love with copperwise - she wasn't afraid to say what she *didn't* like in a review - and said it well... it was good stuff, too - we took it to heart and improved our album composition... ;-)
