Mom's Day

May 10, 2009 22:59

We watched Bill Haher's Religulous, after much gardening today.

Life is Good.

R is leaving for Kuwait or or around the end of May now.

(sigh)

The front yard raised garden (with lovely irrigation system): Lettuce, peas, nasturtiums

Beans (2 kinds), kohl robi, calendula, echinacea, carrots, squash (not yet sprouted), cilantro

Jalapeno peppers, roma tomatoes, turnips, corn

Corn, pumpkins, squash and gourds (not yet sprouted) (doncha love the irrigation system???)

Sunflowers (sun-screen for very warm green house!), and new concept plant (from friends, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chayote) chayote

Sunflowers plus 'nuther concept plant oca (a plant I learned about after M's trip to New Zealand, http://www.ocatuber.co.uk/, the leaves are amazingly yummy!!!)

M. settling the new Braeburn apple tree (our Mom's Day gift to the home). Turns out, the Braeburn apple is just what I was looking for; both a cooking and eating apple. A hybrid discovered in NEW ZEALAND!, http://www.orangepippin.com/apples/braeburn.aspx)

The elder M. carving a way successful door in the new greenhouse (where, without it, the temperature soars above 100 degrees on sunny days!!!!!)

The strawberries are blooming already!!

The "kinky" hazel is momentarily unencumbered by the fennel.... (yes, I got the tree based on the concept and it's become one of my favorite weirdies...

Suburbia....this is us, with our small space, bringing garden-growing HERE. We'll see if the scale and water-usage balances close.... I know that home-grown flavor is AWESOME!!

Life is good.
I wish everyone well.
