I've seen the advertisements for this show for a few weeks now, and not being much of a reality show junkie, nor a huge fan of kids, I had no intention of watching it, but it ended up on my television by accident, and just as I was about to turn it, I got caught by the level of maturity of these kids as one of the older ones (maybe 12) came over to ( Read more... )

Weeell, I wouldn't invest too much love in it - it might not stay on for long. Maybe it's not a big news thing in Canada, but this is the show facing all the flak over violating child labor laws. They think because the kids are so young, working 20+ hour days, doing dangerous things like construction and farm work and using fires (all without "adult supervision") that they're being treated like slaves. Parents were crying out for its cancellation weeks before it even aired.

I'm of the opinion that it's all in good fun - or education, or adventure, or whatever you want to say - 'cause seems to be promoting responsibility and hard work, and it definitely gives the sprats an appreciation of the way children once lived in this country. Also, it is Good Clean Reality Television, which is a rare species. Families can watch together and have stimulating conversations about history and stuff.

I don't know if there are lawsuits pending, but... probably. This is America. XD

hmm.. interesting.. I don't follow the news as much as I should, but from what I saw, that seems a bit... well, stupid. I think your opinion is spot on, not to mention the example they're setting, quite different from the rest of the media.

Figures though.
