Ports Issue

Feb 23, 2006 09:25

I could get into a long rambling post about how I feel about the government giving control of 6 East Coast ports to the UAE, but I'll try to keep it short and as concise as possible ( Read more... )

I usually support most of Bush's decisions, but this is one of the most idiotic things I've ever seen. I guess we learned nothing from 9/11. Go on ahead, attack us.

*shakes head* I hope our representatives are doing something about this. I'm not comfortable with any Arab nation having any kind of access or control of our ports.

Well and that's my point, the best one can say is that it's an uncomfortable idea (no one could possibly say it's a GOOD idea). Can't we do something that doesn't leave so much to chance?

There will definately be a democrat president in 2008 and no one can argue against that.

the democratic president depends on who they get to run for them...lol their are a lot of radicals in that party that i really don't like...if it's somebody with common sense and some intelligence, i'm for it.

Bush could be considered a radical republican. And he got elected twice in a row, even though he was doing a terrible job.

i totally agree LoL..he is pretty radical... but our choices have sucked the last two elections. If either party brings in somebody who has simple criteria i mentioned before, i'm for it. I really hope McCain runs again and wins the preliminaries this time, and not a money hungry politician.

yea i don't know what to think about that. These guys already control most of the ports around the world, and with globalization in our face, it does make sense to go with them. If we don't we have to shut down our ports before we can find another company to take it over..if there is even one that exists that can handle that kind of volume we bring in and out every hour. The question here is whether our national security is worth the possibility of hindering our economy? And for how long until we can establish something useful for us to use again ( ... )

Well actually, there IS evidence that the UAE is tied to terrorism. Some 9/11 funding went through UAE banks!

Also, in 1999, our government planned on assassinating Bin Ladin while he was in the UAE, but they couldn't...why? Because he was staying with the royal family of the UAE!

I don't want us to ball up and cut off from the rest of the world, but would you, for instance, be for selling our ports to North Korea?

My main point is this: you can't even say that this is a GOOD idea, nothing about this screams "good plan" to me. At best it's caution inducing and an uncomfortable idea. It doesn't feel secure and it feels like we are taking a roll of the dice with our national security.
