Sunny weather

God, that's a lot of reading. And a lot of moving around to get the books. But at least you enjoyed them...

I'm glad you did well in your tests! Now let's hope that last school isn't too hard...

As a Latin girl it's hard for me to sympathize with someone who actually WANTS to get tan when I try so hard not to get one (actually my arms and legs are veeery dark from driving and wearing shorts, but my torso is positively ghostly, so I do need to even out things...maybe naked sunbathing? LOL)

You try not to get a tan :o Why? I love having a tan, I look so much better when I have one than when my skin is horrible and pale

Feel free to ignore the long, boring answer. candy_marie_55 April 20 2007, 19:21:21 UTC
In the arcane institution that is Latin society, especially Puerto Rican society, it's still a sign of superior social standing to have pale skin; in Colonial times (15th century) slaves got tan from working outside while rich people stayed inside, and the prejudice against dark skin still prevails, though in a much subtler way. (Do I sound like a racist now or what?) Plus my mom and sister have dark skin while my dad and I are lighter, and I've always found the contrast to be part of our identities. (Is this weirder than the first comment?)
