Sergei's eyes swept the opulent room and spotted a shadow on the balcony. He inched a little higher and peered at the shadow, and the curtains obligingly moved aside enough for him to see the form of a young woman.
Great. She wasn't asleep. And she was probably wearing the ring. Damnit. Well, that made things clear.
With a soft sigh, he climbed through the window and landed heavily. "Queen Ashelia B'nargin Dalmasca," he called quietly, moving through the room with a bearlike lumber. He had a feeling that with his sharp teeth and claws added to the scar he would make a terrifying sight, but he held his hands up in a gesture of peace.
He didn't blame her for being wary, but he gave her points for not calling for the guard. Despite being royalty, she had the look of someone who could hold her own, and he couldn't help being impressed.
Slowly, he lowered his hands and bowed.
"My name is Colonel Sergei Smirnov," he said. "I'm a member of the community, and I apologize for breaking in like this."
