In which I am domestic!

In the last three and-a-half hours I have:

--picked up my first CSA share
--washed, packed, and otherwise put all the vegetables (kale! lettuce! radishes! zucchini! spinach! peas! onions! scapes! cilantro! oregano! mint!) and eggs (1 dozen a week, this could get...eggy) away
--made dinner consisting almost entirely of CSA veggies
--made these for ( Read more... )

I'm so jealous of your CSA goodness! I miss having a share this year.

This is my first CSA share! I am very excited, but I do worry a little that I'll end up with way to many vegetables for one person...

I worried about that too, but it ended up being fine. I did end up freezing a bunch of stuff to use later (or freezing portions of what I cooked so I wasn't eating the same leftovers for days), but for the most part I was able to use everything within a week. I think I still have a bunch of frozen, grated zucchini from last year's share (we got so much zucchini and yellow summer squash....so much) as well as frozen blackberries and some frozen vegan gumbo made from farm produce. Oh...and one jar of grape jelly I made from the week we got grapes.

I kind of love that it forced me to eat so many vegetables. And I knew if I was lazy about it, I'd be flushing good money/food down the toilet, so that was good motivation to stay on top of things.

This is what I'm thinking too. The share was a fair amount of money up front, and I really don't want it to go to waste. I'm also hoping I can use more of my weekly grocery money (er, not that I really budget that rigorously) on things like fresh fruit and beef and chicken from the greenmarket.

this is the greatest list of all time. YAY FARM SHARE! THAT IS AWESOME! We're real basic ladies when it comes to cooking, but let me know if you want pointers for how to work your way through all this stuff!

and the energy bites look good! how did they come out?

YAY FARM SHARE! I am pretty basic when it comes to cooking too, so I'm sure you have excellent suggestions! Right now I'm mostly concerned about the herbs. I love cilantro, mint, and oregano, but there is a LOT in this share. I suspect my food for the next couple of weeks is going to be heavily seasoned.

The energy bites are very tasty! I definitely recommend including the chocolate chips, even though the recipe says they're optional. The chocolate adds a necessary little bit of zing. I also recommend adding a little bit of salt, unless you happen to use peanut butter that has salt already in it.

The dilemma of how to eat all the vegetables was what kept me from trying a CSA share last summer. And yet, it remains seductive.

I've been watching the Daniel Craig 007 movies obsessively. And trying to wake up in the mornings.

X-Men: First Class is a good choice, though!

Yes, the CSA this year is an experiment to see how well I can manage the vegetables. If I end up with a lot of wasted/given-away produce, I won't do it next year, or I'll find someone to split the share with. But I'm going to try freezing and maybe canning a bit, so I can keep eating local veggies into November and December. We shall see!

I know people have issues with XMFC, but I honestly just get a kick out of it. I bought it in Blu-Ray and...so pretty! Have you seen any of the set pics of the filming of the sequel? I am looking forward to the outfits at least as much as anything else.
