let's see if anyone can figure this one out.
you have snakie, snakie comes from south of the equator where things tend to stay a bit wet. set up is a bottom layer of coconut bark which is excellent at retaining moisture and then some non-harmful tree mulch on top. Upon initial setup, the sub-substrate was pretty damp as was the substrate. That equals. . .humid times in our little enclosure, right? As the definition of relative humidity is the temperature at which the amount of moisture contained in a molecule of air is 100%, or maybe that is dew point. Doesn't matter. There was also a large bowl of water that was more than half full, in case snakie wanted to go for a swim. some two weeks later after the boy genius decides to put the incandescent spotlight right over the water dish is very little water and I am sure that the top substrate is pretty dry as I don't see him misting daily as he should and there is no hygrometer so he couldn't tell what the humidity was regardless. half-way point, snakie was fed and for the entire week, despite my constant jabbing about playing with his snake and other lewd comments, snakie remains trapped, unloved in decreasing hospitable conditions.
friends come over. oh, well i gotta show off my 250$ snake, but what's this. the damn thing is now snappish and likes to hide under the plastic water dish(i know where the snake hides, i check her daily. boy genius is kinda clueless). makes sense, the plastic helps to keep the humidity under there pretty damn high I bet. Guess that is why they recommend covering half the tank with a piece of acrylic, lexan, glass or something. Boy Genius would know this is he did something with his internet connection other than play wow. it is passed feeding day, cage hasn't been cleans out that i can tell of and our friend is sad because snakie hides all the time. snakie is also looking a bit pale, but i guess those are the kinda details you miss when you neglect something for over a weak. I can usually tell you the coloration off my herpes on a daily basis but as snakie isn't mine. . .
and i hate to watch this, i finally got some effort put into adding more water(not enough) and misting(nowhere near often enough) and i guess boy genius doesn't understand the concepts of hand taming something. it you want it to show a sunny disposition to being picked up when older, you need to establish a recognizable pattern when it is young to being handled. doesn't have to be everyday, but it does have to be more often than every time you want to show it off to your friends. maybe once snakie gets fed, i might implement my own program and teach snakie that boy genius is the man. and what do we do to the man, we damn(bite) the man. hell, boy genius didn't even know that snakie was nocturnal.
personally i feel that he should have gone for a corn snake as they are cheaper, leaving more funds to buy the other things(like a clue) needed to properly care for his new pet but blah. poor snakie. i might have to cut some more acrylic and more my hygrometer to snakie's den. i know about where the humidity in my tanks sit. i still can't believe that he is shocked at his boa's current actions. and guess what his solution is. remove about half the substrate(maybe two inches deep if we're lucky) so that snakie can't hide. no, stop surfing for walkthroughs for the last game you bought and type in rainbow boa care sheet in the google search bar. maybe i'll print out a couple and attach them to the tank for light reading.
damnit, i am suppose to be a chemist, not a xoologist(or more specifically, herpetologist)
