So the university employs people to come in and clean the bathroom and vacuum the floor in our rooms once a week.

I haven't heard of anyone else having issues with their cleaning person besides me.

A little tiny secret from my past. I actually worked cleaning dorms in London many, many, many years ago. I only held that job for a few weeks, not one of my better career joices.

Any way, the student kept their toiletries in little baskets which they carried to the shower/bath rooms and ket them in the dorm room. Sounds like you actually have an adjoining bath room, but that may still be what the staff expect you to do.

That might be part of it, but she even was messing with anything on the tiny little shelf we get under the mirror, and took the toilet paper out of the bathroom. I still think she's being ridiculous.

And part of the sad thing is - I really just don't have the money to go out and buy more things that are unnecessary for my continued existence. It cost me a lot to get what seemed to be absolutely essential when I first got here and I've pretty much got everything allocated until my next financial aid check comes in.

I think she's being ridiculous, but maybe it's a culture thing? I've never heard of a cleaning person having a fit about things being left in the bathroom. It's not like it's that hard to lift them up, set them aside, or clean around them! (Reminds me of the Sex and the City episode when Miranda gets a Hungarian cleaning lady that hides her vibrator and puts a Jesus statue in her nightstand drawer instead. So she confronted her and the next time she had arranged a bunch of condoms neatly on a plate for her.)
