wish i could have been there with you going for it..i blame my lack of focus...and my lack of seriousness..nes...soemthing...OHH!! and teh fact that my skill is nowhere up to that yet! well! ya did bloody well, and you trained hard, got what you deserved.
BWAHAHAHA... Ook, you my superior now. me ashamed...thereisnosaurusAugust 12 2004, 01:14:15 UTC
good going and great work on the grading, and I can understand the feeling of getting it completely- I am almost there myself, so, uh, I can kind of get the idea... but seriously... Jumping back-kick? we don't do that till second dan... Damn, that's a difficult one to pull off. We do sidekick, turning kick, front kick, forward elbow strike, reverse punch and sidestrike w/ knifehand for first dan... much easier than your lot, however we do do them in a row with no rests :x.
once again, really good going ;) this was stefan, case you needed the info...

Dude....I can't be your senior. We're doing different martial arts. AND SINCE WHEN DO YOU HAVE AN LJ?! You should have told me. Am friending you now.
BTW, when are you going for blackbelt? And yeah, like D_eye said, the way our grading works is entirely random. If you ask someone when a grading starts, the answer is "When Master Rhee says so." The same is true for the how the grading is set out.

I cannot but assume that national is indeed the best style :P, but I must also acknowledge (unlike our instructors) that there are indeed other styles and they are indeed as good as/better than ours in some respects. in any case, I'm only going for my intermediate black, so you'll still theoreticaly be my senior if I grade (intermediate is a grade for teenagers only, a prooving ground that they're good enough to try for fully qualified 1st dan. we only have to sidekick through 2 planks, turning kick throung 1, front kick through 1 and punch or knife strike through 1. not much). and I still have 4 months to go before I grade for that one. Based on all evidense, I acknowledge you as my senior untill so proved otherwise (meaning if you try and take me on I will pulverise you to prove my superiority, and probably get kicked out of the school for it
( ... )

Ok...you have an intermediate black? WTF is that? We have junior blackbelt for anyone under 16, and senior belt (or 1st dan) for anyone 16 or older. If you're under 16 but your instructor thinks you're qualified to go for senior belt, you can probably try out. The boards we break are also completely at random. Women aren't allowed to break boards with a punch, so we usually do knife hand strikes. Sometimes we have a 1 board turning kick, sometimes spinning heel, sometimes back kick, sometimes jumping back kick. But you always have to do 2 boards sidekick. If you're going for junior black you can only break 1 board sidekick, but you also have to do a flying side kick over 3-4 people your own size and break 1 board. Okay, I fully intend to pop onto your LJ every now and then. Have you friended me?
