Fandom Politics Poll

Nov 15, 2006 19:43

So I've taken up fandom analysis as a hobby, and I'm back with another poll to satisfy my endless curiosity. This time, I'm trying to determine whether there is a correlation between people's choice of fandoms and OTPs and their political preferences.

Poll Fandom PoliticsComments are welcome, but please do try to stay on topic, i.e. political preferences in relation ( Read more... )

Whoops - I feel like such a go 'tard, I though "fandom" was just referring to HP....sleepy mind didn't expand on it any further... :)
But I felt bound to report my other fandoms, just because I'm a PIA: Crossing Jordan (Jordan/Woody), CSI, Law and Order SVU (Stabler/Benson), Inuyasha (Inuyasha/Kagome), and that's about all I can think of at the moment. :)

And what's a "ticky box??"

HP is the only fandom I write in, so, in my mind, they are often synonymous too.

And what's a "ticky box??"

I'm not sure, actually, but it's considered kind of fashionable to have one in your poll. Seriously, I think it's used for statistical purposes, i.e. to count the total number of people who voted in the poll, but that only works if you make it a one-option question. Which defies whole point of 'question' ...

Exactly! I'm sticking with HP, especially after I heard the funny things they do to the LotR characters in their fandoms...

Usually it's a no-question that allows you to go wild clicking all the boxes available. It's for those people that vote just because they are attracted to clickable things.
I like them, they are fun.

As I said with OTPs... should list my response here, 'cause it gets too long otherwise... though I don't tend to go for any such, more just what I don't like. Huh. Same response as how I vote... easier for me to say which one I don't like more than which candidate I like. Since I rarely like any of them... Anyway ( ... )

Ok, and forgot one, because the muse is being a pain in the arse... Angel/Buffy fandom, no OTP, but am highly biased towards Spike/OFC, with a side of Buffy and Angel gone bye-bye.

Oh my! Well, that's something, that's for sure. ;) I think you have more favourite pairings than anyone else I've met in fandom.

*blinks* Whee!

Heh. I think the reason I like so many is I rarely have a bias against any particular pairing... with some exceptions which usually involve disliking the hero-type character, so disliking any pairing with said character...

Maybe I should have called 'ticky circle' instead, but the thing is, I had to put in one radio-style question so that I can deduce how many people answered the poll. :)

Ah, but I need to practice my math lest I forget all these formulas I spent nights trying to memorise at school!

So...apparently most fandomers are left in the political spectrum.

As I suspected. I'm somewhat curious why, though.

Well, for Harry Potter (and probably a lot of ther fandoms) it`s obvious: If you didn`t read the books because they promote witchcraft and God wouldn`t like that, you won`t write or read stories which are based on those books.

And for slashers: If you are a religious fanatic or just a homophobic arse, you won`t read slash and won`t vote for people who want to legalize / legalized gay marriage! (And as slashers usually write the most interesting stories... ;-))

You're presupposing that everyone who doesn't vote left is a religious fanatic or a homophobic arse, which isn't the case - there are some gay people in the US Republican party, for instance. But this is interesting: if fandom was representative of the general population, all of our countries would have left-wing governments.
