Every time Adobe After Effects crashes, I can hear the rabid laughter of the Apple gods saying "BUY ME! I'm fast, reliable and stylish too!" By being in Fine Arts, getting a Mac is actually a pretty wise investment.

Though, as a former Mac user, I found it really frustrating to own one. If you want any sort of software for it beyond a Word Processor or art programs it's near impossible to find anything. You either have to cruise the one and only Apple isle at Computer City or go to a Mac Store (45 minute drive for me). Though this has mostly changed with some knowhow you can put Windows XP on it.

On the plus side, I like how stable Macs really are. I still have my old LC3 with the factory installed OS on it. Never had to reformat. I've only seen dead Macs in Elementary school where kids put viruses on them or fucked them up edge-wise some how.

I don't need any special word processors. I need something that would accommodate video and animation needs. And that takes up a ton of memory. It's getting desperate at this point.

Definately go Mac. I think Pixar uses Macs for all their movies.

And...do not upgrade to Windows Vista. Yet.

My computer is probably too crap to be able to handle Vista anyway. But why against upgrading it at this time?
