I'm deaf and I go to York. I wanted to reply to your entry in York LJ Community but I don't really know what to say. I am fluent in ASL (for most parts). I have a little tendency to use Sign Exacted English (SEE) because it was my first language.
You'll do fine in the course as long as you don't miss any class. In ASL, you'll use your facial expressions more. In the course, I don't think you'll be "allowed" to use your voice. You'll have a lot of fun. :)
I have a hearing friend who is learning ASL. Her challenges are 1) practicing on her own time and 2)receptive skill (while watching me sign).
If you have any questions or thoughts on ASL or deaf culture, feel free to email me at sonjapj at gmail dot com.
