Actually, unless I am mistaken, the official policy emphasis is actually on the inner motivations and spiritual disposition of the individual Catholic. Vote for Kerry all you want, but if the overriding reason for one's support is his so called "pro-abortion" stance, then there's a problem. If however, you are motivated by other reasons for backing Kerry that do not contradict the Magisterium of the Church, more power to you.
In other words, don't expect to come directly from a Family Planning rally for Kerry to Holy Communion, but if you come from an anti-war rally, that's fine---provided one's motives are not inconsitent with Catholic teaching.
