Death Note Fanfic Recs
If anyone is interested, I decided to make a post for fanfics that I think take Death Note writing above and beyond. These are a couple amazing writers whose talent I look up to. Some of them, anyway, I just pulled together what I could find in case anyone is bored and hasn't seen these yet. Here we are!

Notes: This story makes me giggle every time I read it. XD Every line is awesome. One-shot.

Summary: There's a fine line between interrogation and torture. A battle of minds on an uneven playing field.
Notes: So well-written, it's dark and professional. Focuses around L and Light during the time Light was incarcerated. One-shot.
We Fat Ourselves for Maggots

Summary: Ryuuku watches over his family. Ryuuku/Raito. Sort of.
Notes: This story is about Ryuk, and being so good, it is the definition of eerie. Very dark. One-shot.
Becoming Useful | Atropos | Forsaken | Redemption

Summary: Mikami is torn between two masters. Mikami/Light, Mikami/Near and Near/Mello in 'Redemption'.
Notes: This story is beautiful beyond my ability to describe. Takes place in a sort-of AU where Mikami meets Light when Light's 17, and they become lovers. 'Redemption' takes place after the manga ending. Each story is a one-shot, but they can fit together into a multi-chapter.
His Son's Father

Summary: Light and Soichiro have a late-night conversation.
Notes: It pulls at your heart. It really does. One-shot.
Going to Marrakesh
Author: Edmondia Dantes
Summary: It's not right and it's not nice to try to kill the same thing twice. A divergence fiction.
Notes: Crazy, lovely, painful. L and Light. Mutlichapter.
Shotgun Religion

Notes: I'm not usually interested by the Mello/Matt pairing, but this was just written so well. One-shot.

Summary: Light has 13 days to find out how it will feel, not just to kill, but to destroy. A Death Note AU. LightxL, set immediately after the Yotsuba arc. Warnings for angst, blood, and cake.
Notes: Dark and wonderful. Long one-shot.
Coexistence is Boredom

Summary: A new deathnote. A new plan for world sanctity. And an entirely misled Catholic clergy. Raito and L take their respective places on the sides of their own justice. A final battle waged in the Garden of Eden. LRaitoL.
Notes: This is absolutely epic. The storytelling and plot is brilliant and is difficult to tear your eyes away from. Every chapter is full of L and Light mind games. Multichapter.
The Best Present He's Got Yet

Summary: L has some birthday presents for Raito, but he's a little tied up. Chained up. Whatever.
Notes: Handcuff L/Light smut that's well written and makes me snicker.Oneshot.
Something Wicked This Way Comes

Summary: An alternate universe. L and Raito meet under different circumstances.
Notes: Very well written, keeps L and Light in character. Multichapter.
Portrait of the artist as a young boy
Author: Vashtijoy
Summary: Various things that Light learns between the ages three and five. One-shot.
Notes: I love this one - it captures the way a child's mind works wonderfully, while bearing the essence of a young Light Yagami. It's funny but yet pensive.
Redeemer | To B or Not to B

Summary: The story takes place after Death Note ends, although the main characters have not died. Here the Yellowbox Warehouse is essentially the pinnacle of L's 6-year long offensive against Kira, who believes L to be dead, when he really isn't. -COMPLETE-
Notes: The most amazing Death Note epic I've ever come across. They are both long multichapters with complex plot, intelligent narrative, and phenomenal characterizations. By default they are L/Light and Mello/Matt, but they have a ton of other pairings - in fact, the focus is often on Mello/Light. Absolutely recommend.
All for now but more to add to the list later! There are a lot of good Death Note fics out there, I'm just lazy and need to track down my favorites, since I unfortunately don't have them all bookmarked. I shall find more brilliant DN stories soon!
