I am giving Sophie's World another try (my third), as I have just managed to conquer Oliver Twist on the fourth re-read (first one age 5 or 6, in Russian). I remember what always annoyed me about Sophie's World--Sophie is very poorly written. She is written simple, both in wit and in the lack of complexity. She is talked to as a simple. i am already further into it than the last time I read it, and I am more than half way through, I am optimistic about finishing it this time!

I know, it really makes me cringe too--Sophie is both stupid, and rude. But the book is very informative. Though I think that may be its chief virtue, as reading the parts on philosophers I am familiar with is kind of boring. Still, think I am getting to the exciting part where the Sophie/Hilde mystery get more air time.
