You could always head towards Kent. It's the other side of London but we're tripping over castles and history. Canterbury's lovely in particular and only an hour and a half or so out of London by train.
Sounds like a nice place to go. I have actually been to Canterbury before. That was on my school trip to the UK over 10 years ago now. From what I remember we only visited the cathedral there though.
Heh there does always seem to be a couple of coach loads of schoolkids from the continent in Canterbury when I go there! It's just so pretty and old. Anything you want to know about places in Kent just ask. :)
I agree with Jacksrubberduckie, her part of the country is gorgeous, but in saying that you could see my childhood home, only 15 minutes drive from the airport, or even better as you come into land, look out the window you'll see it. lol
Well, I won't be flying to London. The Eurostar is much cheaper. And faster. You don't have to wait ages to be able to check in.
But the convention is at Heathrow and I'll be leaving from there to go wherever in the UK. And I have to take my train back home at St Pancras Int in London.
Also, I won't be driving in the UK. Way too dangerous ;)
I found a good tourist site about Kent, so I'll probably go touring around there a bit.
