Me lembras?

Holy hell it's been years since I updated this bastard! Since internet is that inconvenient combination of rare and expensive here, I've been sticking mostly to the parent-friendly page that narrates (in a very PG manner) the life of a Peace Corps volunteer ( Read more... )

Heya! this is Andrea, Jacki's sister. I've looked into flights through STA and in the high season of mid-july/mid-august it is an excrutiating $2900. Ouch. Then I tried a May/June combo and the price dropped to about $2100. However, once you get over there it should be inexpensive. Or at least that's what I'm banking on!

Ouch is right. :(

I think Mozambique would be worth $2100 but I also think it would buy a heck of a lot of consumer electronics... or even pay off my car:(

I will definitely consider it though. What's the Powerball Jackpot this week?

Ahh, come on, what's really the worth of consumables compared to an experience you can remember and reflect on for the rest of your life. Especially an experience so radically different from life as we currently know and live it! (and not to mention a totally kick ass girl waiting to welcome you to her new way of living)
Forget the car...the payments will be the same when you get back. Trust me, I know ;)

lol, Dude, I know... It's really friggin' far away! But once you get here it shouldn't be too bad. I haven't done the math yet, but it depending on how long you are planning on staying, a couple hundred dollars will prob. suffice to see a few sites, eat at a few restaurants, and (by and large) hang out in my town and passear like it's our job! A bus ticket from Maputo to Quissico is 150 meticais, and there are 25 meticais to the dollar. Eating in a restaurant usually runs about 180-250, depending on how fancy you want to get, and beer is usually about 20. I usually don't spend more than 30 meticais a day on food, so that gives you some idea of how inexpensive day to day living would be.

If Al wants to come, give me at least a year's warning so that I can start cleaning all the peanut dust out of the cracks of my house!

Miss you! Love you! Sent a letter awhile back, but I'm not sure if it ever found its way....

Oh, Jacki!!!!

I miss you. I miss your endearing, witty, knowlegeable, whimsical advice to my meandering, whiny, floundering, confused self. Sometimes, like now, I just really feel like I need some good old-fashioned jacki to talk some reason into me when I'm getting a little too unreasonable.

I also miss bare-asses covered in tattoos of rainbow unicorns.

I'm working on a letter to you. It's just taking along time. a long time.
