Mum's stress linked to schizophrenia | Breaking News | News.com.au

Somehow missed this at the time (surprised that it wasn't covered in other avenues). Fascinating. Does anybody know if there's been further research, or some show of causality since this was released?

Scaring cows gives sour milk, scaring chickens gives scrambled eggs, scaring pregnant women gives schizophrenic babies. Interesting.

I remember seeing a similarly-themed study once, looking at the children of women who were pregnant during the bombardment of Rotterdam in WWII. Can't for the life of me remember where I read it, but from memory they found a correlation between stress during the first trimester and a higher probability of gay sons.

btw, again, i would love to know if there were follow-up studies (and if the scientific reporting was accurate, to start with -- i never KNEW there were so many errors in science fact reporting until i started reading the blogs of snarky reporters such as sclerotic_rings...)

Scientific "fact" reporting is a bloody joke! It is actually quite scary how few journal articles are real useful data that doesn't have great big gaping holes in it unfortunately :( Particularly bad in the medical profession and with the longest reaching consequences.
