So, as it happens...

My last living grandparent- my maternal grandmother- died early yesterday morning. She was 96 and had been getting progressively weaker and older living in a nice home for seniors in San Clemente (she had previously lived in San Juan Capistrano, which isn't much further up the 5-N). The last time I saw her was about a week ago and really looked ( Read more... )

As it happens, yeah...
My maternal grandmother was my last grandparent as well, lived to 91 and left us much later than my other grand-folk. I think a lot of my overseas family appreciated that I was her unofficial caretaker most of her last few years. The sense that it was time just came and everyone took the news gracefully. Hope your family finds such peace as well.

If there's any change in plans, feel free to let me know(?) Either way I'll be around. (for now, next my Tuesday and Wednesday are booked)

(Well, my paternal grandfather also lived to be 96, but he was much older, so it came sooner) Honestly, other than maternal grandfather, who I really enjoyed spending time with, who died back when I was a sophomore in high school of COLON CANCER which should have been preventable with the appropriate testing... *ahem* I was never that close with any of my grandparents.

At this point, I'm not sure if there will be a funeral or not...

I see ~ (my dad is back in Taiwan to get another round of preventive care, actually)

Okay. I can still come by around 10 or so on Monday then.

I wasn't particularly close to my grandparents either but that was partially because we moved to FL before my personality was fully formed. Mom told me later that I was one of Grandpa's favorite grandchildren, which always shocked me. Guess that's why I got the printing press from out of his classroom...

That is definitely a fun sketch book.

Yeah, my paternal grandfather had a whole bunch of grandchildren older than me (yet my dad was his oldest child) and I never met my paternal grandmother. I only knew my step-grandmother, Melva. I didn't even realize she was step-grandmother for years! I just thought we called her "Melva," to differentiate her from my maternal grandmother. (We didn't call him this to his face, but my sister and I always called him, "Grandpa in the Desert" because of where he lived)

I'm glad you think so! I tend to think it's a little tacky... XD;
