WTF, WOOD TV? What's With the Global Climate Change Skeptics?

Apparently the application form for meteorologists at WOOD TV has a box on it that asks "Are You a Global Climate Change Skeptic - YES or NO". Now WOOD weatherman Bill Steffen is carrying water for the corporate-funded, anti-environmental disinformation campaign on his blog:

When I get back, remind me about the brick factory. I have video footage of it and it is quite a sight to see. The smoke could be seen for miles in such quantity and quality that you would think that the source was a sight of a major catastrophe. The air had a sharp smell of sulfur. Something to remember.

Climate change policies should be resisted. For starters, it's totally pre-empted every other quantifiable and measurable environmental contaminant and degradation issue. Now we're supposed to regulate, tax, and economically burden just because somewhere, maybe somehow, something might happen, of which we don't know exactly, but it's going to be really, really bad, or not, in the far near future so we must act now! Oh and if it turns out to not be a problem, it was still good because it solved all those other contaminant issues for which we have actual empirical understanding of.

I totally agree with you that the current "garden-variety" environmental degradation is a huge issue that we need to stay focused on, there's a vast and compelling body of scientific study that can point to very specific consequences of global climate change. The problem is, with global climate change, the consequences are difficult to quantify specifically and they're potentially years away (it's not as though we can point to a burning river to prompt people to act).
