I'll get a lot of shit for this, and frankly, I don't care.

Criticizing Reagan now is just flat out disrespectful, rude, inconsiderate and hypocritical. You take the time to point out that Dubya and the right wing are taking full advantage of this event. Well, what do you think all your criticizing is? Are you not taking complete advantage of this opportunity to bash the man completely into oblivion, for ( Read more... )

To be honest, I've always badmouthed Reagan.

But I haven't said any more now than I do any other time that horrible president is brought up.

Dying does not make one a good person.

But I do agree that some people are going over the top here.

Badmouth him all you want! I agree, he was a shitty president. But, there is a line crossed where one should know to hold their tongue for the moment.

And just for the record, I haven't said or argued that dying makes one a good person.

Yeah, it seems as though once people got word of his death they remembered... "Oh, yeah, I don't like that guy" Because not many of us find ourselves thinking about the president in the eightie's and what he did wrong/right when we have present time to think and for some people BITCH about. It's not a time to criticize what Reagan has done, because upon their death, no one wants to be a politician...but a person. That sounds cheesy, but I truly believe it. So, yeah, completely agree with you man.

So shut up all you John Hinckley Jr.'s. Just joshin.

why is death so special? everyone dies. why do we put so much emphasis on death in our culture? Missing someone is fine, but making them impervious to any criticism because their body said "fuck you bitches, I'm out" is rediculous. the reason that Reagan is getting so much criticsm is because people are lying about who he was and what he did, and a few people feel the need to point out the fact that he wasn't a saint, angel, or saving grace of the country. plus, realistically, which reagan exactly is going to know what we say about their husband post-mortum? a line might be crossed if someone walked up to nancy and said, "your husband ruined this country," but no one is doing that. No one has any obligation to respect the dead, after all, they are DEAD. and since dying isn't special, it is, in fact, the one common trait shared by all things which live, there is no point in shutting up for a few months whilst lies are told because some one croaked.
so humble yourself, and dont get all preachy.

Wow. When did I say that we shouldn't criticize him, ever again, now that he is dead? I haven't once. Not ONCE. I've said it pretty clearly, I think that criticism is fine and dandy, when done at the right time. There is a time for it. That time isn't the day a man dies, or during his funeral. And, god forbid there are people in this country who share a different view of this man then any of us, and are mourning this loss. That'd be the death of us all ( ... )
