Polaris: Fancast and Playlist

Aug 15, 2016 00:37

Fair warning, this is image heavy.

Playlist

This playlist isn't specific to either version, though it definitely matches the longer one better. I'm pretty pleased that I managed to include a song about a threesome, a really sneaky Harry Potter reference, and country music. Also, I reordered this quite a bit, but I'm pretty sure everyone can tell the sex scene songs from the other songs. (...like anyone anyone uses Fiona Apple for anything else.)

Fancast
Look. I love Dan Radcliffe and Tom Felton, but you can totally delight in movies and then have things in your brain which are different (and, you know, in your opinion, totally superior) so if anyone wanted to see what my vague mental images were, here you go. Why are there thirty times the number of photos of Pansy versus everyone else? Um, because I said so, that's why.

Harry Potter
Thank you, White Collar, for putting Neal Caffrey under cover in glasses repeatedly.

I imagine if all you're doing is a theoretical lecture in potions, sure, why not, wear a suit and tie, Harry! No one's going to object.

Is anything about this image canon compliant in any way? No. Do we care? ...I sure as hell don't.

Anathaxia
Fishers are North American mammals that sort of fall midway between a pine marten and a wolverine. The females are about the size of a really, really big house cat. A lot like mink and sable, they were hunted for their fur for many years. They are also - speaking as someone who in a former life was a wildlife biologist - utterly fearless, and not something you want to mess with. Small? Yes. Likely to eat your face off? Also that.

Draco Malfoy
Literally every available photo of Alex Skarsgard at the moment is him and Margot Robbie hanging all over one another, because Tarzan, which is cool if you like that sort of thing (I mean, there are him and Margot playing with KITTENS, so that's all well and good) but you get the gist of it.

There is one obligatory "Slytherin leather jacket" photo in all fancasts. Hush.

...shut up.

Lethe
Lethe is a very large timber wolf. Everyone knows what wolves are, so I won't go into that, but I will sort of note that most people's conception of wolves from zoos and the like is often from the eastern subspecies, which is smaller. Lethe is C. l. occidentalis, a northwestern timber wolf or Mackenzie Valley wolf, and the record holder was 175 lbs, just to give you a bit of an idea. She could quite happily eat you for dinner with very few problems. (If you've been to the International Wolf Center in Ely, MN, or to the CO Wolf Center, you've probably seen some of these guys.)

Not the right colors, but for size reference:

Yes, they did rather undersize the direwolves in GoT, why do you ask?

Pansy Malfoy
It took me like eighty years to figure this one out. It was Natalie Dormer for ages, because, well, Natalie Dormer. Then I poked around with Michelle Dockery, but it just didn't feel right. And then I was like, nope. THIS ONE. Gemma Arterton it is. Allow me to demonstrate.

She gives impeccable Slytherin.

Look at that bone structure.

She also looks quite good in black.

Including when wandering around London doing doctoral things.

Or when going after bad things or wayward students in the night. I mean, really, I wouldn't want to tangle with that.

Have I mentioned the giving good Slytherin thing? Because really, people.

I mean really, REALLY good in black.

But it's a rare Slytherin who can pull off maroon and gold.

And even pull off Harry's awful gold jumpers. (Why, Potter, WHY?)

She also cleans up well.

Including when forced to wear awkward purple things just because her parents happened to give her a floral name.

But unlike some people, she can look appropriately human.

And inquisitive.

Like being stern yet approachable in her official Hogwarts professor photo. (What, of course we can't see it move, we're muggles.)

And her, "Boys, HONESTLY," look (because you can't take Harry and Draco anywhere in public) is pretty cute.

In short, she can be pancake flipping adorable.

But wait, you're telling me. Pansy had a blunt bob in the movies and it was great, how can we abandon the adorable straight hairstyle? YOU DON'T HAVE TO.

But if you need more convincing...

She does schoolgirl rather excellently.

And Harry has a motorbike.

Kitcaron
Kit's a melanistic (aka black) panther, which is the same thing as a cougar, a puma, a mountain lion, or catamount. Technically, "black panthers" are a really stupid catch all term which include black leopards in Africa and black jaguars in the Americas, and there's scientific debate (blah blah blah) over whether North American cougars have a melanistic phase. GUESS WHO DOESN'T CARE. Why is he black? Because he wants to be, that's why.

Wherein I Am Sneaky
...but hold on. Just one more photo? Green eyes, dark hair, and a Weasley sweater? Hm. No idea where anyone's going with that one.
