So the holidays are over but I'm dragging anyway, because it goes from nice and warm to cold and nasty and no matter what it's dark. And it might have been a month since I had bronchitis but I'm still coughing, which is just nasty. Long story short? I really want a vacation ( Read more... )

Shiny? That's a new phrase. Do Florida and California count as warm and shiny?

California itself doesn't shine, but there's a nice house with a pool that, in the right light, shines in the sun if you actually ever take a vaccation. Just say the word and I'll book flights for both of us.

Your husband and I already worked that out. You just need to let me know what dates are good.

And if you mind a guest.

Tahiti. Hawaii. Someplace warm, with beaches.

Or, alterately, Ireland. Doesn't much help with the dull weather, but I hear its beautiful - it's a place I've always wanted to visit, I've just never managed it.

Hmm. Beaches are a possibility. So are Irish castles. I should find some brochures.

Sort of depends what your goal is, really. If you're looking to lay back in the sun, and relax, unmoving for several days, then beaches are definitely the way to go.

But if you're looking for exploring, good tales, and good pubs, then probably Ireland is a better bet.

Well, I'm really not sure what my goal is yet.

The whole point is to get out of the country, in this daydream of mine.

Although I might be persuaded to pass a weekend on your fine shores, if you could be persuaded to put me up.

While I fully understand that particular desire, I'm not much of a used car salesman if I don't at least try.

We've got a whole house that's barely getting use. It's yours if and when you need it.

Really? Tell me what weekends are good. I really do need a break and a change of scene, even if it just means sitting on that famous deck I keep hearing about.

I think that you should go to Rome. I adored it when I went there in college.

Mmm. I'd never thought about Italy. What about the rest of the country? If I'm going to go I ought to do it properly.

Oh, pretty much everywhere you go will be amazing. When I went, I stayed mostly in Rome, but I also toured Venice, Florence, Turin, Naples, Milan, Siena, and Bolonga. Then again, I was there for a whole summer.
