It's not a joke, and yes, it's fucking retarded. I heard about it this morning, on scifi.com's news blog (http://scifiwire.com/2009/03/sci-fi-channel-to-become.php)--which has gotten quite a large and vocal response echoing the "it's fucking retarded" sentiment. It's also been reported at io9.com (http://io9.com/5170447/sci-fi-channel-changes-its-name-to-a-typo) and Geekologie (http://www.geekologie.com/2009/03/the_scifi_channel_is_changing.php)...so, unfortunately, it looks like the real thing
