Just got caught up and couldn't stop reading to respond until now (and hating the fact I need to go to bed if I plan to work tonight LOL). I know I'll pounce here tomorrow to find the last chapter. I have made a comment on your LJ so will only comment on the story now ( ... )

My goodness . . . it's your response to this story that's leaving me breathless! Wow, thank you so much.

I plan on exploring the words of the spirit guide eventually in one of the sequels I have planned for this, because that was a whole other big issue that I just couldn't fit tidily into this portion of the story. My thoughts on it were similar, but I think Buffy had enough to work through without adding that into here.

I agree, too, that Intervention was a real turning point for them, and if Buffy hadn't died, things could have progressed not quite as darkly. I like to think that they were starting to become friends here, at least, in the show, and that's partly why Buffy seemed to want Spike's company before everything got so, as you say, twisted.

The bite scene . . . major source of nervousness. My last posting board was PG-13 (PG, really, but people pushed a little), so it was more than a little scary for me to share that.

Thank you for reading/enjoying/replying! This is pretty much the ending . . . chapter four is more of an epilogue, but it won't be long in coming.

this is a bit overwhelming in its intensity - you understand spike so well and have captured the constant turmoil that is buffy. another wonderful update.

I'm noticing a trend with the word "intense" here. I hope it wasn't too overwhelming?? I'm glad to know my characters are coming through more or less appropriately, thanks for the feedback and thanks for reading!

it's rare to read such an intelligent spuffy fic with the kind of emotional weight you put into your writing. this is "intense" in the best of ways. it feels real and the intensity comes from the deeply intimate nature of spike and buffy's interactions. you've given these characters integrity and if it makes us as readers squirm just a little bit then DAMN have you done an amazing thing. :D

I'm going to echo others regarding the intensity of this chapter. It was beautifully written (as were the others) and outlined so many Buffy-thoughs that I wish could've been in canon. Fanfiction is a wonderful vehicle because it allows talented writers such as yourself to express what a lot of fans wished had happened. The whole bite scene is but one example; Spike does so much to rise above his vampire status in her eyes. It's a joy to read.

The way I see it, Buffy's actually very intelligent. She may not be the most book-smart cookie around, but she does have a brain and I think she needs to use it. Like you said, it's one of the great things about fanfiction that we writers can explore the aspects of our favourite characters that didn't necessarily happen in canon. As for Spike, I think that one of the things about his character is that, while he tries to be 'better' than what he is, he also doesn't try to hide the fact that he's a vampire. I think that Buffy should be able to recognize and accept both of these facts.

I'm glad you enjoyed it. Chapter four will be available soon.

I have absolutely no words to describe my feelings when reading this. I'm completely and utterly overwhelmed! The way you use words to paint the emotions Buffy and Spike are feeling is ...magical and mesmerizing. This story made time stand still and it made me forget my surroundings. And that is wonderful!
