So, so much better than what we got on screen in Season Six while still remaining essentially true to the characters we did see on screen.

Besides, you’re a lot more…colorful than Angel ever was.”

“Yeah, like that’s a terribly hard feat,” Spike scoffed.

Xander’s expression turned serious. “That, and I don’t see you as the running away type. Like Angel. And Riley. You’re stubborn as hell.”

Spike looked at Xander then, not sure where he was going with this.

“And someone as stubborn as Buffy? Especially now, not being able to admit if and when she needs help…She needs someone like you. You make her happy.”

Yup, Spike never, ever quits on anyone or anything. And neither does she.

First, I love that icon :D

Second, thanks for the pimpage.

And third, I always thought that if they were all given the chance, they would have behaved accordingly.

Thanks for the lovely review :D

I enjoyed this what if scenario. Spike not just going for the physical, but wanting something deeper rang true to the character and keeping himself unavailable made Buffy realize what his friendship meant already. Xander actually stepping back and looking at Buffy and seeing the lightness Spike is bringing was lovely. Of course he'd be a good enough friend to put his prejudices aside and support what was good for her.

Thanks for another delightful read.

Yeah. I never got the whole *gasp!* "Xander will lose his mind if Spike and Buffy were ever together!!" thing. Particularly after seeing "Something Blue" and "Intervention," when for a moment, he did believe that they were together. He didn't freak out--mildly disgusted, sure, but if it had been real, he would have been okay with it. Particularly at that point in s6.

Thanks--I'm glad you enjoyed it :D

Lovely. Season six started out slow and careful and this story continued in that vein. It is wonderful to read. A moment, a decision that allows time and space for Spike and Buffy to start a "relationship" that Xander can almost understand.

now off to read the epilogue, again

Thank you :D I never fully understood the downward spiral season six took, and this is my third try at "fixing" it, and this is the one I'm most happy with, as short as it is.

Ooh, and again? Sweet!

Really enjoyed the flow of this--and Xander deserves kissing for going against his natural urge to scream and throttle. Great job!

I never thought that Xander would really freak out actually--we've seen him think those two were in a relationship twice, and by early s6, Spike was a part of the team. I never understood where the idea of Xander would just totally hate on them came from.

Anywho, I'm really glad you enjoyed this. Thank you :D

LMAO. My guess would be when he was going to kill him after finding him with Anya. Not logical I know but he was disgusted when he found out about Buffy and Spike then. I'm with you though. I think if it had happened earlier it would have been accepted a lot better by him.
