Seven Days Response: a Fandom Action.

Jun 02, 2007 03:55

The stated Goal of 7 Fandom Days is to create a dialog with Livejournal about fandom. Specifically, to get LJ to specifically respond to fandom concerns about censorship and types of creative expression what will/won't be construed as "safe" in the future.

Our Action Points:

Day 1: Opening day: Sharing our Stories.
The Introduction. We ( Read more... )

It seems to me like we as a comm could use a little more debate on that. One thing we can do for sure is show then the accounts that they should have known better than to suspend ( ... )

clarification: When I say "we don't have to speak up for them" I mean it in the sense of "other people ie free speech advocates and legal folks including EFF with a lot less to lose than fandom can speak up for them" not the "i'm not going to speak up for the jews or the gypsies or the gays until they come for me and nobody is left" kind of way. It's not our job right now to defend the speech rights on LJ of the pedophile community. And ironically if we attempt to separate the journals it was appropriate to suspend from those it wasn't, we'll end up doing just that. Instead, I vote we point to the clear errors, the cases in which it should have been obvious there was no malicious intent, and then acknowledge that there are likely other journals beyond the fandom ones that also technically should not have been suspended, without having to choose and name them.

Concerning Day 7: We call Livejournal. This would happen on Saturday, right? Are their phone lines open then? I'm pretty sure here where I'm from they'd be closed on weekend, but I don't know about American system.

Other than that, looks pretty good!

Maybe we should slide that to the following Monday and use the weekend to really tally up all the results of everything and have something impressive to report to them??

It would start Saturday at midnight and run through all of Saturday, but if we need to wait on it a few more days, we certainly can.

I'd like to help in any way I possibly can. :)

Also, I highly recommend spreading the word about ljabuse_love and I'm so glad to see it on this list. There are a lot of fandom members of Abuse, and they've been slammed right and left this week for something they had no control over. They were very kind to me in regards to pornish_pixies and I appreciate their efforts.

I agree. I thought your letter to them was a perfect example of the spirit we want to show. I might link back to it when the We ♥ LJ day comes around. :D

Darn, I'm going to miss this thing completely - a DofE walk meand no internet access for the week in question. It's a brilliant idea though, the best of luck to you.
