Since the half-move to Alicante back in August, Isabelle hadn't spent a whole ton of time in New York. Sometimes, it was hard to keep track of just when it was back home. He got caught up in training and classes and so many things to remember that he ended days with a headache more often than not.

But, he'd been aware of Christmas so he knew New Year's was right around the corner which is why he slipped away from Idris and back home to New York to be able to celebrate it with Isabelle.

He hauled his bag up the stairs and used his key to open the door calling out, "Honey! Where's my dinner?"

"I gave it to the dog, darling, because you weren't home!"

But of course.

The only reason she didn't rush to the door to greet him was that she thought she made quite the picture by the window with her takeout. Hopefully that didn't make her seem any less thrilled with him getting home.

"What dog?" Flick asked, dropping his bag down near the door and moving towards her, a smile already on his face. "Did you get us a dog when I wasn't home? I thought I was the puppy of this relationship."

"You are." He so, so was, and she had all kinds of things to prove it with. "It's an imaginary dog. And an imaginary dinner!"

She held up her food.

"There's last night's takeaway."
