The first fic is always scary; from what I've heard, and now from what I've experienced. To tell the truth, I'm not sure where this story is heading... but I promise I'll try my best to make this DIFFERENT from anything else you've ever read. Big promise, I know. Wish me luck :) All right... here it goes!

-------------------------------

"How much time?" Sergio asked for the seventh time that appointment. His mother was right beside him, desperate to avoid the question. But Sergio couldn't wait anymore. He needed to know.

"3 years at most." the nurse said, looking at the reports "That's more than enough time." Sergio said, breathing in heavily, and nodding. He looked at Mama and smiled. She looked at him sadly, with anguish clearly visible on her face. He pulled her in a tight hug. And they stayed that way. For a while.

The nurse looked at him sadly. "You're one of the bravest people I've ever met, Mr. Ramos," she said, her voice quivering slightly. Sergio felt horrible for making the poor nurse upset. He got up, and gave her a big bear hug as well.

Fernando woke up, startled. Hyperventilating, and shivering violently, he waited for his eyes to get used to the dark. He looked around, desperately looking for the devil in his dreams. It didn't come. He waited, listening. No sound but the cool summer breeze, and the barking of the neighbour's dog.

He looked at the clock. The bright red glowing numbers silently told him it was 4:03AM. Bright red. It reminded him of the eyes of the devil. Fernando shuddered.

"Not bad," he muttered, "I slept two hours more today, than any other night this week." Pleased with himself, he rolled over onto his side.

Fernando's been having similar nightmares ever since his early teenage years. Since then, he's been living in constant fear... and constant isolation. He didn't know how to love... and he never experienced being loved back. It never bothered him.

Okay, that was a lie. It bothered him ALL THE TIME. But what could he do about it? His mother and father were too self-indulged, they never bothered giving Fernando the few things he needed the most: love, and support. Tears pooled in his eyes as he remembered the countless times where he was compelled to keep all his anger in; to tell himself, "just shut up, and deal with it." His mind was poisoned with all the negative emotions he was experiencing. He turned into a selfish little brat. Fernando Went astray.

The truth: Fernando. Was. A Monster. He didn't know how to share. He didn't know how to feel. He treated people with such repulsive disrespect, and was the most short-tempered man known to the world. He went clubbing. He drank like there was no tomorrow. He only thought of females as past-time, and nothing more. In Fernando's life, there was no discipline. And he liked that.

Fernando closed his eyes, fighting to stop the tears that were now threatening to flood. He rolled onto his back. Sighing, he put his arms on his chest. He refused to remember thing of the past. Nothing was going to bother him. He had a business meeting the next day. He couldn't afford to lose the deal. His company was at risk. Thinking of business and the office distracted him enough from his despair, and he fell asleep.

And as he did, the darkness washed over him.

--------------------------------------

Sergio and his mother stepped onto the plane. They were heading to a country where one of the the most advanced specialists in the world lived. His mother thought it was worth it. Sergio thought it was a complete waste of time. Something pointless. Time wasn't something to play around with, in his belief book. But Sergio wouldn't upset his mother. He knew this was harder on her than him. There were 3 years left to keep her happy, and entertained. He'd do everything in his power to keep her contented. That was his vow.

--------------------------------------

Fernando was choosing between his gray pinstriped Armani tux, and his black one. Gray pinstripe stated he was all business. The black one kind of made him look like a groom. "Groom," Fernando snorted at the thought. "Like that'll ever happen." Just as Fernando placed the tux, white shirt, belt, and tie onto the bed, he really imagined himself getting married to someone. He'd never been in a relationship that lasted more than two weeks. He laughed at himself in mock humor, and headed into the washroom to freshen up.

Fernando walked into the office with full style and confidence. He looked around lazily, with a small smile on his face. The usual smile. The one that never reached his eyes. Nothing seemed to. But it drove the women working in the office mad. He liked that, of course, being the bratty, short-tempered pretty boy he was.

Just as he reached his cabin, he saw someone he knew very well. A man he despised. Cesc Fabregas. Fernando glared at the younger man, and fingered him. He then proceeded into his cabin, muttering profanities about Cesc's mother. Despite both of them being in the same company, and working at respected ranks, they were arch-rivals. Both wanted the position of CEO. That meant both of them had to work hard to earn respect from the board. If hard work was required now, Nando would do his best in office.

* * *

After the meeting, Fernando went to the airport to personally pick up the current CEO. He had gone abroad to sign a deal with one of the biggest computer companies in the world. Turns out the company had gotten the deal; a profit of 35.8 million Euros. Fernando looked at the screen. His boss' flight was right on time. But his terminal was on the other side of the airport.

Fernando sighed, frustrated. He briskly walked, and when he reached his destination, he tried his level best to compose himself. "It's all good. Only a few months of sucking up left. Then this moron'll be out, and I'll be in. You can do this Fernando." He practiced smiling a couple of times, fixed his collar, and set off.

-----------------------

Sergio hated traveling. Well, the plane ride and jet lag were the only things that ticked him off. Wobbly and sore legs weren't easy to walk on. Sergio helped his mother up, and they set off to retrieve their luggage.

As soon as everything was retrieved, they were inquired and their visas were checked. They proceeded to the Arrivals, where they would meet Xavi Hernandez and Jesús Navas, Sergio's childhood friends.

Sergio stretched and looked around. Nothing special caught his eye. Until he saw an awkward looking man watching a kid play with genuine curiosity. The man was wearing a pinstripe gray tux. To Sergio, he looked like a businessman. Clean, sharp, and smart. "Hmmm.... awkward man," Sergio said. And it was true. Something dark, scared, and sorrowful seemed to be radiating from him.

He hadn't realized he said it too loud. The man heard him and looked up. He gave Sergio a full-on glare. "Excuse me?" he said. Sergio looked around, then back at him, realizing that the man was in fact, talking to him, not anybody else. "Oh. Hi. Nice tux." he grinned.

The man had chocolate brown eyes, and short chocolate brown hair. Even with a typical match like that, this man was set apart from the rest of the millions of people around the world with the same hair and eye color. He had something Sergio couldn't pinpoint. Something that he'd never seen in any person, ever.

However, the man looked unimpressed at Sergio. With a cocked eyebrow, and pout playing on his full lips, the man looked even more like a child. "Hi won't do, son. Gawking and random commentary is rude. Get that straight."

Sergio was amazed. He'd never seen such a cocky guy.... ever. It was hilarious. The man abruptly turned at the sound of what seemed to be his name. Some old guy, also in a tuxedo called the man with affection. "ah, Fernando! Nice to see you, my son."

Fernando.... Sergio thought. Typical name, for a one-of-a-kind guy. Sergio snorted. He realized he was admiring a guy who just dissed him. Hilarious. Sergio shook his head, and walked in the opposite direction. He spotted his mother, Xavi, and Jesús right away.

Sergio embraced them both with his signature big bear hug. Xavi kissed his cheek. "We missed you, amigo" Jesús said. Both he and Xavi looked sad. "I missed you too, flamingo" Sergio winked, and laughed at his wonderful rhyming skills. "But you two already know that Sergio and Sadness don't mix well. So stop looking like you haven't taken a dump in three years, and smile for me."

They all laughed, and Xavi smacked Sergio's back playfully. As they headed out of the airport, Sergio spotted Fernando. To his surprise, Fernando was staring at him intently. Sergio wanted to ruffle his own hair, smile in Fernando's direction and wink.

And so, he did.
