The last 24 hours could not have sucked more.
1. I only got 4 hours of sleep because a guy in my building barricaded himself in his apartment, turned on his gas, and threatened to blow up the apartment building I live in last night. Naturally, we were evacuated for 3 hours until the police sorted out the situation, arrested the guy, and turned off the gas. Luckily, no one was injured.
2. I had two seizures in front of my classes at school today. Both times, administration was alerted. (We'll come back to this).
3. During second period, my principal asked for my lesson plans. I said that I needed them to teach with (that's what lesson plans are for, of course) and that I could give them to him after my class. I also told him that I had a seizure and needed the lesson plan in case I had another one and lost my place (a completely valid argument). This did not go over well. Within a half hour, I had a letter for "failure to hand in lesson plans" and "insubordination" (a charge I can be fired for).
4. After that nifty little letter, I had the second seizure (see #2). I was removed from the classroom and told that I couldn't be alone. I became a liability (though I had a seizure LAST week during a meeting and nothing happened...I wasn't considered a liability THEN). I was told that I needed to be evaluated by the Dept. of Education's medical department to see if I'm "fit to continue working."
5. After lunch, I had the wonderful opportunity of trying to explain to my math class why I was in school but I wouldn't be teaching them today or (likely) for the next several days. (Up side: the kids were sweet. Funny moment: when I said I wasn't feeling well, a kid asked if I was pregnant. NO, no I'm not! I quickly squashed THOSE potential rumors.) I left them with a teacher who "knows NOTHING about 8th grade math" (her words, not mine).
6. Instead of teaching/even sitting in on my class, I had to "shadow" the 7th grade math teacher in his class. It wasn't THAT bad, but I would have rather been with my 8th graders.
7. After school, I went to talk to the principal about sitting in on my classes, but not teaching (because I'm not allowed to). This was a LONG discussion with lots of crying in which I was told I'm still not wanted in the school (oh, yeah, the principal does NOT want me to work at the school and has a personal vendetta to get me to quit or get me moved to another school or somehow get rid of me), that my medical issues are a problem, that I have horrible classroom management (I'm trying!! It's hard when you work at a school with no discipline), and more.
8. I was sexually harassed by the principal. I was told that, as he saw it, he had two options with the insubordination thing (#3): give me a letter and have a hearing OR "bend me over his knee and spank me" (quote). "What would [I] like?" WHAT!?!?! He also said that he couldn't get me fired because then I would have to come and live with him in his big house with his wine cellar ("what would [I] think about that?") and then he said he wanted my home phone number so he could check tonight to make sure I was home safely ("is it okay? if I call you?") All of these suggestions were repeated 2-3 times each at different points in the conversation. Obviously, the spanking one is the most disturbing. WHO SAYS THAT?!?!?!?!
9. I had math class tonight. Wasn't horrible. We went over the Pigeonhole Theorem. I like that one. Relatively short, simple, to the point.
Elegant.
Okay, bed time. Hopefully tomorrow I can try to figure out what the hell I'm going to do!!
