I love the look of this pattern, especially view C; very Loli-able for a sewer! Did you buy it straight from McCalls, or is it a vintage, out of print pattern?
As for the neckline, maybe you could make the ruffle out of a soft chiffon-like material that flops down over the collar, rather than stands up. Or if you want lace, choose one that's high quality and non-scratchy, like a broiderie anglaise.

and I agree, softer lace won't be a problem. or you could take the collar from C and put it on A.

I like the chiffon idea, I could use that for all the trim and maybe the bow too!
