It probably won't look very good :( You could do it by cutting the fabric into triangles, but still, the print won't look continuous, it will create angles in the seams. Border prints look much better in gathered skirts. If you want a more mature look, why don't you try big pleats, instead of gathering? You can choose the width of the pleat so it doesn't distort the print. I hope it helps.

I hadn't even thought to use pleats. Thanks a million. :3

Maybe a design like this without the scallops could work:

It is essentially a series of long darts, so they don't affect the border and you can create a fit silhouette without gathering

I agree, I think taking several long darts is the best way to reduce bulk and preserve the border print.

Jumping in to add that it's near impossible to attach a rectangle border to a circle skirt -- the skirt will hang funny due to the changing grainline at the hem, if you can get the curved edge and the straight edge to marry. The last circle skirt project I worked on, there was a chiffon border peeking from underneath the hem -- although the chiffon was cut in a long rectangle, it was attached with generous pleats every inch or so, such that the chiffon followed the curve of the skirt hem. It was light enough to not make the hem droop or look bulky.

Yeah. After making a tiny test version with a doll-sized skirt section, I found that out. I considered going the tiered route instead, with the border print serving as the bottom tier. In the end, the pleating suggestion someone else suggested above really worked well when I did a mock-up. :D I'm in the middle of hemming and attaching lace at the moment. Thank you for your suggestion, though!
