I totally agree about how deadly and expensive wedding fever can be. We tried to keep our wedding costs down as we were paying for it ourselves. Also, we figured the honeymoon was 3 weeks, the wedding one day (one afternoon really!) so we should spend more on the honeymoon! And boy am I glad we did!
I remember getting stressed about what our guests would do between the service and reception. I thought we needed a string quartet and canapés (both of which are lovely but not affordable for us at the time). In the end we had bellinis (made with prosecco from Lidl!) and everyone enjoyed taking the each other. I had no flowers but as we got married at an arboretum, no one noticed.
I will confess now though, my dress was waaaay over budget. I never told my husband what it cost and he has had the good sense to never ask.
