Nobody likes to do laundry, but you always want what you can't have. As for what to do with the old one, I know a lot of places like the salvation army and such would pick them up - also there are a few sites out there to post things that you'd like to sell/give away I could find for you. I know Mom used them when she was getting rid of things before she moved.

Why fix something you have never liked if you can swing something that you do? Heck, I'd even get one without all the bells and whistles to get something I liked vs a fancy schmancy one I hated.
Have fun at the laundrymat. I usually just sat out front in my car and read a good book. :)
