Ok. I haven't been posting stories for you, but I promise there's a good reason for it. I've been working...very hard. And it paid off better than anyone could ever imagine...
It all started with the
...
As you all know, I work as a criminal justice lawyer in NYC. My boss was incredible, but he had just gotten remarried to a much younger woman, who was pregnant, and we didn't know how long he was staying here. But he kept reassuring us he wouldn't leave. About two months ago, people started saying that he was leaving, that he was retiring. And that the top CJ at the firm was taking his place. This could've been a lawyer from anywhere on the east-coast, because we have firms all over. But I really wanted this job. I knew I probably wouldn't get it, since I had just transferred from the Philly firm, and didn't know the cases all that well. But I pushed myself, taking every available case (and winning 90% of them too), working late nights, weekends, holidays...you name it, I was there. And I loved every minute of it. Last week, Chris (the boss) told us that he was leaving, but unfortunatly three people would have to be going with him. He also told us that he had narrowed it down to two people to take his place. The five people would be getting e-mails from him, telling them when they needed to be in his office to find out their fate. I got an email yesterday. And I flipped. I had a feeling I was going to get fired, since I was still "new", etc. The email said to come to Chris's office at 3:45.
So today, I arrived at his office at 3:45. His secretary, Moria (she's HOT too, lol) called me into his office about five minutes later.
Chris: Natalie, I don't know how to break this to you...I can do it the long way, or the quick way...
Me: The quick way. Get it over with. Please.
Chris: Sure. You know that I'm leaving and that three people are, unfourtunately, leaving with me.
Me: Yes...
Chris: And you also know that one outstanding employee is getting my position and my paycheck.
Me: Yes...
Chris: And so, I have to ask you *takes a deep breath* how would you like to be head of the Criminal Justice department at [sorry, I can't tell you the name of my firm] in New York?
I fucking got the job! Amazing I tell you. I didn't expect this at all, but Chris says I showed him "Exapmlory qualities" and I start Thursday. Wow, I'm so relieved and excited. And you guys are the first to know! I think I'm gonna go take my sister, her girlfriend, our other roomie, and my boyfriend out for a nice expensive dinner to break the news. Since, you know, I can afford it now! And thankfully, paying the bills isn't an issue anymore either, because my salary has been more than doubled =O...I'm so happy right now, I can't believe I did this...
