I was born contrary, I think. Growing up in the lower middle class side of the city wasn't a great hardship for me because back then, I was simply unaware of what I didn't have ( Read more... )

I think part of the problem the Western World has is coping with folks who have different opinions, and don't tow the line. For some reason I've got out of my way to do this, not that it's helped me much. Kinda an Emperor's New Clothes type-of-thing.

The Da Vinci Code was an unbelievable piece of crap. And I don't mean "unbelievable" in that the story was far fetched, I mean "unbelievable" in that I cannot believe that something THIS BAD could be that popular. I believe it's proof that someone is putting something the water to make the country collectively dumber.

I'm telling you, it's the same as with the Ayn Rand books -- the majority of the population want to be regarded as the "in" crowd, so they read just enough to participate in conversation. I bet they got to chapter 3 of "The Da Vinci Code", thought it blew goats, but skimmed the important parts just in case the topic cropped up at a cocktail party.

You assume correctly.

Ayn Rand is also a consummate crap-spewer. The only difference is she managed to con someone into giving her a book deal.

I'll never run out of anything I'd rather read than "The Da Vinci Code". I'll read the Pakistan Journal of Medical Sciences before I read another overblown waste of ink Dan Brown puts out.

40 Year Old Virgin doesn't even warrant this sentence.

Ok, this is why I can't pass too much judgement on people -- some never saw the original. Dude, not only are the plots inconceivable, but...the producers of the show actually CHANGED THE CHARACTERS' GENDERS.

Hate. Hate, hate, hate, hate, hate!

Not one but two: Starbuck and Boomer! I'm just so...so...

You know, it's best I don't even try to watch it anymore or I'll hurl something at the t.v.

I love unpopular opinions. My unpopular opinions seem to center around the fact that I cannot stand Will Ferrell, Led Zeppelin and most "popular" television shows.

Speaking of Will Ferrell, I wrote the following in my former LiveJournal about a year ago:

Carol and I rented Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy last night. Actually, she and I went to the video store and did what we usually do, pick out one movie a piece. She chose Spiderman 2 and I chose the remake of The Manchurian Candidate. She said she wanted to get one funny movie, if possible. Most of the comedies that remained looked pretty lame, so it came down to Dodge Ball and Anchorman. So, I put MC back and got Anchorman instead ( ... )

Another person I find (found) highly, HIGHLY unfunny was Chris Farley. I once told someone I was glad he died.
