My dog
Current mood: excited

I think I've finally found what kinda dog I wanna get. An Alaskian Malamute would be nice, but I'm not really a big fan of the long hair, so if I could find a short haired malamute, which I don't think exists, lol. Ideally, a german shepard mixed with a Alaskan Malamute. Like this one...

If I had a dog, I'd get a husky. I had one before and they are wonderful. The only problem was mine was very headstrong and attacked our other dogs (which were shelties). My mom used to raise German Shephards and they are great dogs. I just love big dogs in general, though.

Yeah, I agree. You'll never catch me with a small dog. I gotta have something big enough I can wrestle with that's tough and a big ol' dog I can lay with.

We used to raise golden retrievers. They're good dogs. But I like the ones with pointy ears best and the more they look like a wolf the better. I like Irish Wolfhounds too. They are so huge and awesome!

that's what we thought Utah was. Turns out he's a corillian (sp?) bear dog, but he looked a lot like a malamute! they're soo cute!

utah was a good dog :) I'd like to get a dog like utah. When I eventually get whatever dog it is, its going to be a pup and he's going to be very well trained dog. I've always had dogs that never paid any attention to their owners and ran away to come back when they wanted. Ultimate goal...for him to fetch the newspaper :D

1. Don't shave the dog during the summer... The hair that helps insulate him against the cold also helps to regulate his body temperature during the summer and will be more likely to overheat if shaved.
2. Alaskan Malamute's are prone to getting very aggressive as they get older.
3. Alaskan Malamute's turn feral very quickly if they get out of the house and you don't find him quickly.
4. Alaskan Malamute's are very loyal to you and your pack and very aggressive to everyone else (I say this for insurance purposes)
5. Alaskan Malamute's take a lot of work to train. They are very independant. If you don't have the time to put in, I recommend getting a more trainable working dog such as a Labrador, Golden Retreiver, Rottweiler, German Shephard.
6. I recommend buying a couple of books - One of them being How To Be Your Dogs Best Friend by the Monks of the New Skeet and books by the Dog Whisperer.

cool, sounds good. I really haven't looked into the sociability of the Alaskan Malamute, but I certainly will take what you said into consideration. My second alternative was a german shepard.

I had a husky that had some wolf in her and she was VERY aggressive. If I'm not mistaken the females tend to be more aggressive so if you do get one maybe try a male. I know an Alaskan Malamute isn't the same as a husky but I think they are kind of similar.

My mom raised german shepards and she said they were great dogs around people but tended to kill small animals. Like neighborhood cats. A lot of dogs do that though.

Any dog can be aggressive unless you beat it properly. Just remember water spraying is for cat training. Airsoft guns are for dog training.
Seriously though, dont ever let your dog think he is more powerful than a person. Bonus points if you teach it to eat chihuahahs and other small rat looking dogs.
