071: then that high, it subsides / and my body flatlines

Sep 12, 2011 06:51

Well, it looks like my lies are at an end since I finally have a damn multi-fandom post here. This is mostly my latest 20inspirations batch, the overall theme of which is epitomizing a character, storyline, relationship, series, etc. I included explanations for what I think you could draw out from the icons, but if I'm being honest, I threw most of these together without really thinking of the theme too much, so it wouldn't surprise me if people think they don't convey the essence of the subjects they depict. This challenge was really helpful in making me finally use a ton of caps that had been collecting dust on my hard drive. Pretty glad about that!

Mixed in with the extremely repetitive variations are a few Amazing Spiderman creations that I made in July and never got around to posting as well as some months-old The Good Wife icons for a 20in20 Kalinda/Cary (KALARY, BABY!) claim that I never fulfilled. This post goes out to my fave maker since forever ago, motorized, who inadvertently helped me finish my entry batch. (Instead of looking at this post, go check out all her stuff at imotorized instead. You won't regret it!) I wrote a post saying I would have made Mad Men pieces if I weren't too lazy to find caps, and she misread it thinking I said I would make some, which motivated me to actually cap-hunt and polish off my batch with a handful of MM icons! (BTW, I'm only at the very start of S3, so if anyone wants to talk about the show with me, please don't spoil anything!)

You know the drill about concrit and feedback. If you've got any, sock it to me! :)

NOTE: When you snag something, please credit me and the comm, so people will stop friending me when they're merely searching for my graphics. Many thanks!

BONUS: The first person to correctly identify the song and artist/band whose lyrics I use in this post's title and LJ-cut text will get a SHAREABLE ICON REQUEST! (No cartoons or anime though please.) It would be awesome if Google were left out of the equation, but I wouldn't know either way, right? :P Congrats to queer-theory for correctly guessing "Poison" by Beyonce!

1. I think the text says it all. Dan Humphrey and Blair Waldorf (Gossip Girl) seem as if they're total opposites, but over the past few seasons, they've come to realize what they have in common. The inspirational word that sums this piece up best is "close" since the characters formed a closer bond in S4, and they're images abut each other in the icon.
2. This icon shows Alicia Florrick (The Good Wife) as a golden source of light. She exhibits great inner strength while overcoming personal issues and public humiliation. Also, she's an excellent attorney so her words are her greatest tools, and that's why I cropped around her mouth. "Encompass" definitely captures the essence of this icon.
3. Kalinda Sharma (TGW) is a total badass! Green reminds me of sneakiness, and the tilted repeat image encapsulates the crooked, underhanded schemes she uses to gather info for Lockhart-Gardner. "Convey" is the keyword for this piece!
4. This one's all about "angst" since Alicia's married and can't be with her boss, Will Gardner. They work so closely together, but they just can't...touch.
5. This depicts a sort of "requiem" for Alicia's old life as a stay-at-home wife and mother. Her husband went to jail, so she had to step up and become the breadwinner to support her family, and the balancing act between her personal and professional lives is rather exhausting. She's probably also sad cuz I ruined the high quality of that original cap.
6. Will and Diane Lockhart have one of my fave relationships on TGW cuz they're just as brilliant when they're laughing together as they are when they're butting heads! You'd think the texture indicated that they're the lifeblood of their law firm, but really, it's a personal thing for me cuz I'm the only person on the planet who ships them. (Yes, I'm aware there's no chance in hell of them being together, but they inspired this "heart" icon anyway!)
7. This is the easiest to explain cuz Joan Holloway (Mad Men) just never looks amused! She exudes a very "just shut up and do your damn job" attitude, which makes her one hot and snarky office HBIC.
8. Betty and Sally Draper (MM) have a rather frosty mother-daughter relationship. I'm only up to the beginning of S3, but it seems like whenever Sally's onscreen, Betty's there scolding her! This scene is a sweet one though where Betty reminisces about the night Sally was born. It's a "flashback" to a limited degree.
9. This icon is definitely inspired by the words "empty" and "devoid." To others, Betty looks like a golden girl who has the perfect life, but she actually endures lots of emotional burdens and darkness.
10. Here's another depressingly "devoid" Betty icon. The blue tone is a rather obvious hint at her emotional state, and the text is a reference to her refuting a man's claim that she seems very pained by saying, "I'm not profoundly sad. My people are Nordic." That line was heartbreaking but also made me giggle!
10. Ummm, this is just 3 different caps that "convey" Nathan Young's (Misfits) ridiculous facial expressions. He's one of the funniest dickheads on TV, and he has the best one-liners!
12. Simon Bellamy (Misfits) has the power of invisibility, which is appropriate since nobody bothered to really acknowledge his existence at the start of the series. I could've just put an empty white box and said it was him being invisible, but instead I chose to obscure him with a smoky texture and add text of the superhero name that Nathan bestowed upon him. :P
13. I don't wanna spoil anything for whoever hasn't seen S2 of Misfits (just barely watched it myself!), but this one depicts the "angst" between Alisha Bailey and Simon.
14. This is a "flashback" icon that conveys Curtis Donovan's (Misfits) trippy (though unreliable) power to rewind time.
15. This icon tidily sums up 500 Days of Summer in the tiniest nutshell. Tom never truly listens when Summer says she's not interested in committing to a romantic relationship, and consequently, he pretty much breaks his own heart not once, but twice! "Ending" was an appropriate inspiration for this one.
16. In The Social Network, Mark Zuckerberg spends the entire film battling others until he's left all alone. He's got a target on his back that he can't shake, so the pic of him with his back turned and his own face imposed over that image speaks volumes.
17. The colors represent the semi-private hell that Eduardo Saverin (TSN) endures while facing off against Mark, his own best friend, in court. Well, that and I couldn't color the caps successfully, so I had to do my usual B/W + Linear Burn layer.
18. Not really much to say. It's Spidey with a gigantic web behind him since the web is "instrumental" to him swinging around to save the day!
19. The grungy texture represents Peter Parker's (The Amazing Spiderman) inner turmoil and teenaged orphan superhero angst. Or maybe I just liked the way it looked and made up a bullshit explanation for it.
20. Bruce Wayne (Batman Begins) wants justice, and he wants it now, goddammit! He's also sad and alone, and I took his eyes away, which sucks for him.
