Another month has gone by since my last update. So while I am again using LJ more than I used to, I'm still not using it as often as I used to used to

I kind of feel the same way about moving and I don't have the experience of moving from place to place the way you do. I grew up in Michigan, moved to Ontario, Canada and moving from one place to another just isn't that big of a deal. We lived in Niagara Falls for 8 years or so, then moved to Toronto and I really haven't missed NF. Someday I'd like to move further north so we have more access to some great camping and skiing but no matter where we live, I'm usually satisfied. I guess I always find that it's best to find reasons to be happy where you are instead of being miserable.
Still, a big move for you guys. Will you be taking your car back with you? Are your kids looking forward to going back to the States? Do they speak German now or are they happy to be back in an English-speaking country? I hope your husband gets better, or at least feels better. :(
Oh, I really hope I haven't made it sound like I'm miserable. I'm not. It's just hard to let myself fall in love with a place when I know I'm not going to stay here. It's the same mentality that kept me from trying to make friends when I was a kid. You know as well as I that social media (hell, THE INTERNET) wasn't a thing when we were growing up, so unless I was willing to use snail mail (hint: I wasn't), I'd lose touch with those people forever. So why bother? I will say, though, that a friend (my only friend) from 5th grade found me through Facebook since I've been living here. I had been searching for her for years. When she finally found me, I realized I couldn't find her because I had been spelling her last name incorrectly. So hooray for social media

Oh, I wasn't trying to make it sound like you were unhappy. I was just doing a general comparison to people who DO get really unhappy when they have to move. We both seem like the type who accepts and finds the good in places but doesn't get too attached. Sometimes I do really miss Michigan and some of the things I had growing up, but I don't think living there now would be idyllic or anything.
Ug, I also hope your husband doesn't have to go through any of that. :( That would suck.
I guess I'm just curious about Germany because my sister is sort of interested in moving there. She's in the navy as a nurse anaesthesiologist (I never get this title right) and I guess the details just strike closer to home.
