I can't say anything about the situation now, because the effects of GM foods on regular crops haven't been seen yet. But really, if GM crops really can solve world hunger, make crops cheaper and more resistant against pests, and basically overhaul agriculture, I say go for it once proper and very thorough research has been done.

It would be really sad if we said no to a huge innovation just because we were scared of something we didn't fully know yet.
