082: come over, boy / i'm so ready

Apr 16, 2012 06:34

Funny that I was just apologizing to y'all for being so focused on a certain TV show to the exclusion of all others subjects, and a week later, I've actually got a post revolving around something completely different! I don't know how many hip-hop fans we have around here, but this latest post is an all-Drake edition for Round 9 of inspired20in20. The theme is ( Read more... )

Awesome as usual. I'm really liking the colours in all the icons. Favourites are black & white, monochromatic, 15 and 25.
I especially love the reds used in 21-26 and had a hard time choosing which one of them I liked best haha.
I must admit I've heard the name Drake and his face is familiar to me but I've never listened to him. I'm not into Hip hop, I've
recently started listening to Nicki Minaj so I guess I am getting there.

Nicki and Drake are really close friends actually, so he's the guy you hear on "Moment For Life" on Nicki's Pink Friday album! She's on a few of his songs, too, cuz they really love collaborating. Give him a try sometime, Valla!

Anyway, enough pimping for Drake's music. Thank you VERY MUCH for your wonderful feedback and for listing your faves! The "monochromatic" piece and its alts are my fave things here, so it was tough to choose which one should be my entry. I'm thrilled that you enjoy them so much and can't pick a fave either! <3

I know lots of people have difficulty giving detailed feedback, which is why I truly am grateful whenever someone takes time to give a bit to me. It gets easier with time, honestly. I just say whatever's on my mind about why something attracts me, and that just gives the maker an idea of what they're doing right. If they ask for criticism, then I can also use my idea of what seems strange or "off" about the icon to give advice or suggestions. THANK YOU FOR YOUR EFFORTS IN GIVING ME FEEDBACK, VALLA! <33333333

Let me know if you get to like Drake's music. I hope you do!

I'm not sure what offends you so much about #1 because, on my monitor at least, it's actually a really nice icon. The overlap of textures is gorgeous and I adore the eye-catching pink colouring. It's kind of an ironic choice of colour for a rapper and I really, really like the underlying humour/statement/whatever you want to call it ( ... )

I don't know. It just looks too busy and messy, but I had to keep trying to hide the flaws I saw and also make it look painted until it got outta hand. Again, it's wonderful to hear that someone else can appreciate the work that went into it even if I don't personally like the result. Thanks for the reassurance, Sheeka! (You have no idea how hilarious I found it that I threw so much purple and pink at a damn hip-hop star ( ... )

Lol, you're welcome! I enjoy giving feedback. I only got back into icon making around December after stopping for, like, four years o giving feedback helps me break down the technical aspects of an icon and find what I like so I can try and apply those same techniques to my own stuff.
It's crazy how people's opinions differ and I've had feedback from people saying they like icons I wasn't particularly proud of as well so *shrugs* one man's rubbish and all of that!

WHOA. I didn't know you'd returned from such a long hiatus. It's really cool to hear why you give feedback, and it certainly seems to be helping in your own work, which I think gets stronger with every post.

Exactly! That's why I always post my alts/variations. Just cuz I'm not crazy about them doesn't mean others can't appreciate or use them! :)

Have you ever been told that your comments and feedback are like rays of sunshine in the rather bleak world of LJ? CUZ THEY TOTALLY ARE!!!!!!! It was super fun working with the word prompts cuz they really guided what I should try to achieve for each icon, but of course, they were open enough that they didn't hinder my oddball tendencies either. Thank you so much for yet another brilliant comment and for letting me know what you liked most, Robyn! <3333333

Ugh, the blushing problem arises everytime you comment, Amanda. SERIOUSLY! Thank you so much for your usual wonderful feedback and love. It's a tremendous source of motivation to make more icons! <33333
