098: i'm prepared for this / i never shoot to miss

Up until this past January, it had been over 1.5 years since I opened Photoshop. I tried to enter the inaugural round at 20muses, but I just got so frustrated making icons that I had to stop. Plus, grad school really began kicking my ass, which didn't help matters at all. But now, I'm halfway through my winter quarter and miserable as fuck, so iconmaking

First things first: it's good to see you back! You and your creativity were missed.

Second, you don't disappoint. I'm always in awe of your texture use and your compositions. My favorite icons are 5, 12, 13 and 18. You did a great job with your coloring! 9 and 11 of your alternates are also gorgeous.

Awww, thank you! Considering how creative everyone seems to be nowadays, I'd say I'm at the back of the herd now. But it does feel good to be opening PS again and just going wild with textures!

I think since there don't seem to be as many people around now, I didn't feel so much pressure to live up to any expectations, thankfully. That would have crippled the whole process, IMO. Thank you SO MUCH for the feedback. 18 is a fave of mine, so it's awesome that it stood out to you, along with some of these other insane things! :D

And I would have never guessed you hadn't opened Photoshop in so long by looking at these! I love your text in all of these and the way you use textures and composition is incredible! Besides, I can't stop staring at 11..love the crop and coloring! Seriously, these are amazing..you came back with a bang ;)

Text is a major source of iconizing frustration for me, so it's incredibly rewarding to hear positive feedback about it! OMG. I haven't posted anything here at all in 2 years, so I'm surprised all the members haven't left yet! But then again, most people wouldn't remember to leave a dead comm anyway since it's outta sight outta mind! :P

I'm so grateful for your awesomely enthusiastic reception of this set! It makes me feel more motivated to keep making stuff after such a long hiatus!

(Ughhh, my sympathies to you as well. We're lucky to be receiving grad school educations, but the workload can be incredibly painful, right?)

I've read that you are still being a sweet, wonderful fellow maker to all in the community, which surprises me about as much as going outside to find the sky's still blue. Thank you so much for your wonderful feedback! It's always so interesting when someone gravitates toward an icon I'd think would be overlooked, like 3. I'm thrilled that it stood out to you! Same goes for 13 since it's one of the only icons in the set that wasn't turned monochromatic! <3

Hahaha, you are sweet! Yup, still there though I should x-post my last one from squaredmc. I have been very off and on this year but trying to come back slowly.

I am always amazed by which icons stick out for some people, often times they are icons that don't stick out for me!

Ahhh, squaredmc, I'm coming to check you out again soon. It's been a long time, my dear comm! If I recall correctly, your crops were always outstanding so I'm sure my mind will melt when I see what I've missed from you while I was away.

It's fascinating, right? You feel so sure sometimes that everyone will look at a certain icon, but then everyone's attention gets directed to something you felt was too subtle or just not as overtly noticeable!

I love these! Such an amazing set! I love the vintage look on #4 and #5! Also the compositions here are so amazing especially on 16-20! :)

I'm floored by how encouraging and kind people are being about this set. I suppose I shouldn't be though cuz I've always been fortunate enough to receive such warm, enthusiastic feedback from fellow makers. It's awesome that the community is still hanging in there despite the rest of LJ looking like a graveyard.

Thank you VERY MUCH for your fantastic comment! I was never great at muted coloring, but this stuff seems less vibrant than my old work so maybe I'm finally growing a bit. Compositions are the ultimate fun for me, so I'm extremely delighted that you like the final row so much! :D
