Sometimes the best way to get over the past is to live now. ALL wounds heal over time and it has been an incredibly short amount of time for you since so you feeling so down about it makes sense. Live now, it may take YEARS but you'll look back on that life with a smile someday.
Oh and don't worry if I ever win the lotto I'll buy your house back so you have that too look forward too ;) What are the chances of winning the lotto... 5 to 1.. something liek that right? ;)
Thank you for being there for me Rich. And for doing deliciously wicked things with me. :) You give me something to look forward to and you have no idea how wonderful that is.
Thinking about the past will always hurt but will not always overwhelm you. Build your new life, take whatever happiness you find, make peace with yourself and in time you will be able to look back upon your past from a position of strength and security. From the look of things, you have already made a great start :)
The trick, in my humble opinion, is balancing learning from the past with moving on from it. I believe that if you are truly taking the time to deal with whatever it is you're going through, or your "baggage" if you will, you'll be just fine. The problem is most people lie to themselves and don't actually deal with the past before moving on.
For me personally, I've handled different break-ups differently. Two have been fairly traumatic; the first I responded to by just turning off my emotions and becoming fairly cold. As you can probably imagine, that didn't work out too well. The second, I made an effort not to turn cold. I dated... a lot... but continued working on what I knew I needed to work on. I was able to get to the best/happiest place I've probably ever been in my life, and that's when I met Tom. :)
For what it's worth, it seems to me like you're doing everything right. You talk about it, analyze what you're doing, and seem pretty self-aware. Keep up the good work!
