That's dumb. In all my service-related jobs when I was younger, a passport was always acceptable.

Perhaps this reflects the American obsession with biometrics. Height is about the only measurement that I would trust a service person to take correctly. I wonder if they have to keep a tape measure behind the counter for verification purposes...

In some ways, I suppose that it actually makes sense since body mass is a more reliable indicator of alcohol tolerance than age and height is reasonable indicator of body mass (possibly). I am imagining those cardboard height charts that they have at theme parks (Barney says "If you are taller than me then you can buy this drink").

In any case, I imagine that a European passport would still be invalid as height would inevitably be given in centimeters :)

I would be flattered if anyone suspected that I was under 21. But then, I have turned thirty, rendering me officially decrepit. Don't worry, it really isn't that bad. You can have fun inventing war stories, pretending to forget people's names, wearing your slippers to work and running people off the pavement (sidewalk?) with your zimmer
