Is it bad that it kind of bothers me how today, one of my friend's best friends ended up unconscious in the hospital because of a car crash, and I understand how he feels

I understand what you are talking about, It's not anything suicidal at all. I've felt that way. In December of 2002 my step brother died in a car accident and all I could think of was "why?". When somebody dies you get the most hopeless feelings possible and the only thing that will save you are good memories and great friends. Remember that.
