jane gave me a copy of Female Chauvinist Pigs, i've read a lot of feminist theory but i liked that this book wasn't theory but an actual account or accounts of women on both sides of the oppression fence.

I've sort of struggled with academic "theory" whether it be in regards to feminism, racism, philosophy, politics or etc. in that I don't consider myself anti-intellectual but I defy you to find someone who claims to be a staunch feminist/nationalist/anarchist/ist-ist who doesn't, in some way or another, have their head completely up their own ass. I feel that maybe if you dig too deep in these studies and start to define yourself through them that you'll soon realize that life can be pretty miserable for the oppressed if you allow yourself to think about it TOO MUCH.I don't say that in any way to disparage or belittle the struggles that any one person or people face each day, but as a reminder that not everyone is as enlightened or willing to understand and that, possibly, the best approach to solving said issues is with a little humility. This book is perfect for women (and men) who had have enough with the way girls are portrayed on TV and in movies but also have enough of a sense of humor about it to understand that it doesn't have ( ... )
